The Blue Dragons traveled to Arlington to wrestle the quad with Kingsbury County, Tri-Valley, and Flandreau. Overall, the team had a nice start to the season. The boys started with a win over Kingsbury County before falling to preseason ranked #6 Tri-Valley and Flandreau. Our returning varsity wrestlers started the year off well with a bit of preseason rust to work out. We will be having quite a few wrestlers getting their first varsity experience. I feel they wrestled hard and tried some great things, but the results were just not quite there. Although this will probably be a learning year for many of them, I believe that their hard work and dedication to the team will help them be successful later in the year and the years to come for them. One of the highlights from the night was that senior Tanner Donelan was able to win his 200th career match. This puts him into some elite company for Blue Dragons wrestling. He now joins Dan Bonte, Tyler Sorenson, Brad Bruggeman, and Nick Bonte on the list of 200 career wins. If I missed any alums that have reached 200 career wins, please let me know. Tanner was able to achieve this with a pin over Jake Scofield of Flandreau. Our first competition gave each of us an opportunity to see where our training needs to go. Our team will continue to improve as the season moves on and our young kids get more experience. Our older wrestlers will be able to fine-tune particular areas that will benefit them at the end.
