Flandreau Tournament

After competing in the Flandreau tournament this weekend, the Blue Dragons wrestling team finished in 5th place with 114 points. Pipestone Area won the tournament with 200.00 points followed by Flandreau, Elk Point-Jefferson, and Howard. The Blue Dragons were able to place 8 individuals. Tanner Donelan was the champion at 135 lbs. Scott Howe and Brady Bonte finished with runner-up honors at 171 and 189 respectively. Cody Bonte (140), Sean McPadden (152), and Matt Bankes (215) all finished in third place. Ending the day in 4th place were Thomas Howe (103) and Colby Pierret (112). I felt our young wrestlers were able to gain some good experience at the tournament. Those individuals included Brady Schleuter (112), Tyler Willems (119), Sam Powell (125), Tony Weiland (130), Matt Johnson (152), Dylan Severson (160), and Tristen Wagner (285). These individuals are all fairly inexperienced when considering it is the varsity level. They will continue to improve throughout the year as they work hard to correct their mistakes. Overall, our day went well. The team wrestled hard and kept working to win every match. Our more experienced wrestlers made some early season mistakes that we will need to eliminate as our season moves on. We will continue to make changes to what we are doing to get the results that we wish for. Thanks to all the fans that were able to make it to Flandreau to cheer on the Blue Dragons.
