B" tournament. The tournament was won by Parkston with 143 pts; however, there may have been an error in the computation of the scores. Results are being retotaled to determine if Webster may have won the tournament. Garretson finished in 7th place with 85.5 points. It really was one of those days that our team seemed flat. We will need to work from our mistakes this week and then try to erase this day from our memory. I didn't feel we wrestled to our capability. With the district tournament less than 3 weeks away, we must regroup and prepare for the end of our season better. Many of our younger wrestlers were able to compete in this tournament. I was pleased with their effort on the day. They were in situations where they were "out-manned" quite often, but they competed hard. This effort will benefit them during their future. Thomas Howe tried wrestling with an injury, but was unable to finish the day. He ended by defaulting out of the tournament. We will be looking for him to get healthy to make the stretch run of the season. Colby Pierret was up and down a bit on the day. As he continues to improve and put full matches together, I look for him to end the season on a higher level. Tanner Donelan claimed champion honors by defeating Pat Waring of Miller/Highmore/Harrold for the second consecutive week. Waring changed some things up and was able to keep the match close this time. I believe Tanner will make some adjustments if they meet again to stay on top in this one. Sean McPadden also had a bit of an up and down day. He went out and took down the eventual champion, but then lost the match. Sean can wrestle with most of the guys he sees, but tends to not give himself enough credit with his ability. As he develops more confidence, I believe he has the potential to beat some good kids. Scott Howe also claimed the title of champion. He did not wrestle nearly as well as he had been, but was able to bounce back from some adversity. By doing this, he showed quite a bit of character and it should help him down the stretch run. Brady Bonte finished in second place on the day. Brady wrestled against argueably the best wrestler to ever compete in SD. What Brady did was something to be proud of. He went out to compete and wrestle with Logan Storley of Webster. Many athletes will give in to Logan because of who he is. Brady competed hard and seemed to frustrate Logan some. He did some nice things that will work on most wrestlers later in the season. Matt Bankes continues to try working out of a mini-slump for him. He also did some nice things on the day, but was not able to overcome a shoulder injury completely to place on the day.
Thomas Howe works to finish a single leg on Levi Schonebaum of Burke/Gregory.
Sean McPadden working to finish a single leg against Wilbur Jones of Miller/Highmore/Harrold.
