The Blue Dragons wrestling team began their post-season with District 3B last Saturday in Colton. Tri-Valley won the tournament with 175.5 points followed by Flandreau (169 pts.), Howard (127 pts.), Garretson (118.5 pts.), McCook Central/Montrose (74 pts.), and Chester (49 pts.). The team wrestled well during the day with nine wrestlers advancing to the region tournament this Saturday in Tea. Leading the way for Garretson were champions Tanner Donelan, Cody Bonte, and Brady Bonte. All three wrestled smart matches throughout the day. Cody Bonte was able to defeat an old nemesis of his throughout the year. Thomas Howe, Scott Howe, and Matt Bankes finished the day in second place. Matt also was able to get some revenge on an opponent from Howard to put himself into the finals. Others placing were Sean McPadden in third while Tyler Willems and Colby Pierret finished in fourth place. All nine of these young men have given themselves the opportunity to wrestle at the region tournament for a state tournament position. I believe they will all have a great chance of being successful after what they showed at districts. It was nice to see them come out aggressively looking to score points. Unfortunately, we have also reached the time of our season where some people have to be left home. Anthony Beck, Sam Powell, and Matt Johnson were not able to place at districts therefore having their seasons come to an end. They gained some great experience this year and we look forward to having them improve in the off-season. Individual results are below.
