Parker Quad 12/10/09
We traveled to Parker to wrestle Sioux Valley, West Central, and Parker on Thursday. This match posed many concerns for us. First, we hadn't practiced since Monday because of the weather. I know how much of a challenge it can be for these guys to hold their weight when they aren't at practice. Everyone made weight for the team which allowed us to compete at full strength. Second, it is always hard to keep the boys' focus when we have teams like Sioux Valley and Parker at matches. Both teams have many forfeits in the lineup. The wrestlers they have compete hard for them; however, they are fighting an uphill battle. The difficult part for our team is to get a good warmup in for those that do have matches in those duals and be ready for West Central. We knew going in to the dual with West Central that it may come down to a few matches going in our favor. The boys came ready to wrestle and prepared themselves mentally and it showed. I think they wrestled as well as they have to this point in the season. Some highlights of the night were Tyler Willems filling in for an injured Thomas Howe and winning all three matches. Tristen Wagner also wrestled his first ever varsity match and picked up the PIN! Going undefeated on the night were also: Cody Bonte, Tanner Donelan, Scott Howe, Isaac Lukes, Zach Lukes, Brady Bonte, Ethan Storment, and Matthew Bankes. We will need to use this as a building point into our middle part of the season as we begin facing the more difficult part of our schedule. Our next 2 tournaments will be big tests for our team. The Elk Point/Jefferson tournament (Dec. 19) will feature Canton, Tri-Valley, Winner, Bon Homme, and Woodbury Central (IA) along with many other good individuals from the remaining teams. The Floyd Farrand tournament at Sioux Falls Lincoln (Dec. 28-29) features many top Class A and Class B schools including: Sturgis, Watertown, Vermillion, Wagner, Canton, and Howard. After Christmas, we will have a good idea of where we are in our season and what preparations we need to make to finish the season strong.
