Region 2B qualifies our area wrestlers for the state tournament. The Blue Dragons qualified nine wrestlers to compete. Due to injury, Colby Pierret was unable to wrestle. It is unfortunate for Colby to have to have had his season end this way. Our coaching staff thought he had an opportunity to qualify for the state meet. The other eight wrestlers battle hard all day with Tanner Donelan, Scott Howe, Brady Bonte, and Thomas Howe each qualifying for the state tournament. Unfortunately, we had individuals whose season ended a week too soon. Tyler Willems, Cody Bonte, Sean McPadden, and Matt Bankes competed hard, but just came up a bit short. While we wrestled fairly well throughout the day, we did have a few matches that I felt should have/could have gone our way. My biggest disappointment is for the boys that didn't qualify. They each worked extremely hard all season towards making it to the state tournament. Fortunately for them, they will all be back next season to improve on this year. Thomas Howe wrestled very well to qualify for his first ever state tournament. He finished in second place in a very balanced weight class. It was nice to see him wrestle more aggressive than he has the past two weeks. Thomas will wrestle against Patrick Wilson of Lemmon/McIntosh in the first round of the state meet. Tanner Donelan wrestled in dominating form to qualify for his sixth state tournament. His weight class featured 4 of the top 5 rated wrestlers in the state. He major decisioned both rated wrestlers he went against. He will wrestle against Logan George of Redfield/Doland in the first round of the state tournament. Scott Howe qualified for his fourth state tournament. He did not perform at his best, but I believe he will go into the state tournament determined to change his fortune. He was placed in a great spot in the bracket and needs to take advantage of that next weekend. He will wrestle Dallas Jungwirth of Redfield/Doland in the first round. Brady Bonte wrestled a good tournament in getting to his third state meet. He will need to stay focused on his technique this week as he prepares for the tournament. He has a great opportunity to do well in this tournament. Brady will face Clay Seidler of Custer during the first round. Thanks to all the fans that attended our region meet. The boys really do appreciate the support. The first round of the tournament in Aberdeen begins Friday morning at 10:00. Tri-Valley won the tournament with 164 points, while the Blue Dragons finished in sixth with 79 points. Individual results from the region tournament are below:
